LOST The Text Based Adventure


Imagine a time before computer graphics and all you had was a green screen terminal.

It may sound like madness, but unfortunately I can remember such a time.

Now if LOST was a TV show back then, there may have been a computer game based on it and following in the footsteps of some the gaming industries pioneers I thought why not try and imagine what that might look like.

Fringe Observer Language Key


Since I have been updating this key quite regularly I've decided to keep this version up to date rather than upload lots of versions all over the place

I'll just keep updating this jpg with the latest version.

I have tried to include at least two examples of each letter if they appear in different places using different handwriting or fonts.

Cancer Gets LOST - Tough Interview


During the Cancer Gets LOST live webcast I decided to try and create a sketch of the scene

It turned into this small cartoon where Jo and Jared try to interview the four toed statue.

Jonny Coyne at Collectormania
At Collectormania 18 in Milton Keynes on Saturday (02/062012) I finally got to meet Jonny Coyne.

If you have been following me online you would know all about the DING poster, so when I knew Jonny was coming back to the UK I had to take the opportunity to say hello.

Jonny is a really nice person and was happy to chat about all sorts.

His next project is a western, where he will get to fulfill a hollywood dream and ride a horse !

I also gave him a printed copy of the Beauregard's vital fluid design and he said he will pass it on to Doctor Beauregard himself, Leon Rippy.

So finally is the really lovely tweet he sent out last night.

Fringe Icons
As you may know I have been creating icons in support of the @Fringenuity campaign for a 5th season of Fringe.

I also designed a few extra icons for the @FRINGE__UK twitter chat events for the UK Fringe showing on Wednesday nights.

I decided that they ought to be gathered together in one place and decided that to help share the icons I'd create some mobile phone background images for everyone to download and use.

(These images are free for anyone to download, however the only condition is that you do not alter the image or redistribute)
Pinky The Riveter
This idea was inspired by the voice of Pinky himself Rob Paulsen.

I have been listening to a few of his podcasts recently and was also looking around the web when I spotted the Rosie The Riveter image developed to boost morale during the war years



So armed with the two ideas I combined them and came up with this. Think of it as a small part of Brain's next scheme to take over the world.

Change Your World

Doctor Beauregards Vital Fluid
Another Alcatraz based design to show my love for the show.

This time featuring Doctor Beauregard and his "Vital Fluid" as he decants it from the prisoners in 1963 and in the present day is using it as a magical potion for what ails you.

Where You Belong
In support of the @Fringenuity twitter campaign to get Fringe a 5th season I created these icons for people to use and display their support.

Just in case you are one of few people that doesn't recognise what this is, it was created as a homage to the Violet Sedan Chair logo.

Face to Face With Warden James
As you may remember I created the DING! image, inspired by Jonny Coyne as Warden James and Jo from Inside Alcatraz.

Jo took this one step further and asked me to create a poster sized version that she could print out and present to Jonny and to others that wanted one. So at Wonder con 2012 this picture was taken of Jonny holding himself :-)

The picture was taken and tweeted by Steve Lilien @StevenLilien which made the whole experience even more special for me.

Big thanks again to Jo for arranging this, Jonny for being fantastic as the Warden and the whole of the Alcatraz cast and crew for all their efforts on the show.

Enjoy the season 1 finale this Monday in the US and see you next year for the next season :-)

Mr Papaya Competition
I haven't had a competition for a little while so I thought it was time to have another.

Ding ! Alcatraz Warden James
Warden Edwin James is fast becoming one of the best characters on the Fox TV show Alcatraz.

Jo from the Inside Alcatraz blog mentioned, in her writeup for the episode Johnny McKee, that she would really like an image of the warden saying Ding as he had said this several times in the episode.

So in a moment of late night inspiration I created this image for Jo, based of course on the Shepard Fairey Hope poster image.

When Jo retweeted the picture I got several comments including one from Michael Eslinger (@Monteray_Mike), who is a real life expert on Alcatraz, saying he had used it as a phone background.

So what I did was to create some versions of the image specifically for a few different mobile phone screens.

Save Doctor Who Confidential
If you didn't know already the BBC in their infinite wisdom have decided to cancel the companion program to Doctor Who called Doctor Who Confidential.

This show has been a great way to find out what happens behind the scenes and how the show is put together.

It has been essential viewing since Doctor Who was bought back in 2004 and more than entertaining it was educational and sometimes inspirational, so it was a bit of a shock to learn it was being cancelled.

Don't get me wrong I'm not sure I could watch another short excerpt on how the Cybermen are trained to march, but with a few tweaks and possibly a shorter running length it would still make an excellent way to wind down after a mind blowing episode and give the viewer some extra content for a minimal price.
